It is hard to define a talking therapy as it is different for everyone, and relies on a good, trusting relationship to help it work.
The beauty of a talking therapy is that it provides a safe place with a safe person to talk through difficult issues, and even if we have people in our lives that care about us we can often feel like we don’t want to burden them. What you can expect from working with me is to be treated with respect, dignity and honesty.
I offer therapy to those who might struggle with high self criticism and shame issues as this can make it difficult to find a way forward. I have a limited amount of spaces and often work medium to long term. Many clients leave being able to support themselves long terms and it is my great privilege to have been a position to help them on their journey.
People come with a variety of different issues and these are some I have worked with: Anxiety, Depression, Loss and Bereavement, Relationship problems, Work-related Stress, OCD, End of Life issues, Adjustment struggles , Anger problems, Self-confidence, Self-Esteem and Trauma. I have found that every person’s experience is unique and will be looking to tailor therapy to your needs.
We will set up an agreement to make clear the terms of our professional relationship and so we both know what to expect. I operate pluralistically, which means listening to and assessing your needs, offering and agreeing on a course of therapy, ongoing mutual evaluation, and hopefully finishing therapy well – focussing on your future.
Working pluralistically means being able to offer two or more different types of therapy, which suits me perfectly as a Counselling Psychologist, having received training and accumulated experience in a range of styles (e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Humanistic, Psychoanalytic, Integrative, solution-focused, systemic, mindful refocusing). It also means I will be doing my best to tailor the therapy to suit you. I have further trained in Compassion Focused Therapy which is ideal if you struggle with high self-criticism or shame as this can make it difficult to deal with any mental health difficulties.
My fees are £90 a session, and sessions last for 60 minutes. This is 10 minutes longer than traditional therapy slot times but I believe this will allow for a less rushed meeting, creating more time for us to develop a working relationship. The initial assessment session takes 75 minutes and is charged at the same rate. I currently work on a one-to-one basis with adults and young people from the age of 14.
I am currently operating online via webcam, instant message and email. Feel free to find out more about the different online modes I offer therapy online and consider if they may be suitable for you.
